We love recording stuff…

especially good stuff… even better if it’s good stuff made by good people. Check out some of the good people we’ve made good stuff with below.
Are you good people? Do you have good stuff? Come record it with us!

Stevie Harris: “Circus Samsara” (Soul)

Music-7

Stevie Harris has been a staple on the Southern California music scene for many years, and in many forms. Probably best known as the frontman of blazing soul/funk act The Styletones, Stevie has made everything from Punk to Folk to Funk to Jazz. “Circus Samsara” is a deeply personal collection of songs with a wide variety of styles that represent Stevie’s long and varied musical history.
These songs were all produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by yours truly at HGM. In addition to production and engineering, many of the performances on the record were carried out by me as well. Other session players on the record include Elias Berlinger (drums), Kory McAfee (bass), Ariel Levine (guitar), Jay Chu (violin), and Chaz Cabrera (alto sax).
Listen up for Stevie’s vulnerable vocal performances and storytelling, and the careful juxtaposition of the tragic, the comic, and the absurd. -Jesse

Wicked Tongues: “Color of Attack” (Rock)

2O4A8898-2
We built “Color of Attack” from the ground up. All production, recording, and mixing was carried out by yours truly at Higher Ground, with Mastering duties carried out by good friend of HGM, Paul Abbott at Zen Mastering. We had such a blast making this record, after production I started joining Wicked Tongues on stage to fill out some of the parts from the record.
Wicked Tongues is Mason Betsch (Vocals), Michael Conway (Guitar), Ryan Shaw (Bass) and Elias Berlinger (Drums). Listen up for the insane vocals, huge guitar solos, epic bridges, and even massive choirs! -Jesse

Maddy Myers: “From Afar” (Pop/Folk)

Music-2

Maddy Myers is a child of the modern musical era. Before Maddy had left high school, she was already putting on spectacular solo performances built around her own re-imagined approach to the guitar, and her unique, textural vocals. With a depth of songwriting far beyond what her years should allow, Maddy is adept at creating art that is sometimes provocative, sometimes avant-garde, and sometimes straight down the middle pop.
We took a unique approach with Maddy’s songs, recording live acoustic performances of Maddy at a local chapel, then overdubbing additional production elements over the live performances. Tracking was split between the chapel and HGM, while all further production and Mixing was carried out at HGM. Mastering duties were carried out again by Paul Abbott at Zen Mastering.
Listen up for Maddy’s versatility of style. We recorded two different versions of “From Afar:” one in a so-cal beach style featuring Ukulele, and one in a slightly left of center ambient pop style. Also, listen up for the “enhanced” live recordings on “Lifting the Sea” and “Christopher.”
